Job Purpose

Being a key member of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) team, the position is responsible to facilitate robust research and knowledge management activities for WaterAid Bangladesh. S/he will ensure overall planning, management and coordinating research and studies to be undertaken by WaterAid directly or in partnership with research/ academic or relevant organisations ensuring quality and timeframe. S/he will work in close collaboration/guidance with/ from Technical team for hardcore technical research/study as well. This role will be responsible for capturing learnings, document, and archiving; and dissemination of research and knowledge products to different internal and external audiences, as relevant, in collaboration with other departments/teams as appropriate, thus, contribute to enhancing the credibility of WA Bangladesh as an excellent learning organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Research management • Identify potential research topics aligning the Country Programme Strategy of WaterAid Bangladesh and prioritise through a systematic process conducive to the organisation. • Design research propositions adapting appropriate methodologies and undertake the same through field staff/ external research firm/ agencies to produce final outputs applying statistical/ qualitative/ quantitative analysis techniques and ensuring interpretation of data effectively. • Collaborate with subject matter experts, researchers, and consultants to design research studies and ensure alignment with organisational objectives as appropriate. • Develop high quality Terms of Reference (ToR) for research/ studies with appropriate requirements and coordinate with research agencies to produce research reports ensuring high standards of scientific rigor. • Develop research protocols, data collection tools, and ethical guidelines to ensure research integrity and participant safety. • Stay up-to-date with advancements in research methods and tools especially relevant in the WASH sector, including GIS mapping, remote sensing, and data visualisation techniques. • Document research processes, methodologies, and findings in a clear and concise manner for internal use and external publications. • Present research findings to diverse audiences through reports, presentations, and academic conferences Knowledge management • Develop and implement comprehensive knowledge management strategies and systems to capture, organise, and share information within the organisation and with the relevant external stakeholders. • Collaborate with internal departments/teams, subject matter experts, and external partners to identify, document, and disseminate best practices, lessons learned, and innovative approaches in the WASH sector. • Establish and maintain a centralised knowledge base or repository, using appropriate knowledge management platforms or systems, to ensure easy access and retrieval of information for internal use and archive institutional memories. • Design and implement knowledge-sharing activities, such as workshops, webinars, online communities, and collaborative projects, to foster collaboration, learning, and innovation to relevant external stakeholders. • Develop standardised procedures and guidelines for capturing, documenting, and organising knowledge resources, ensuring consistency and quality. • Promote a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration by facilitating communication channels, creating forums for discussion, and recognising and rewarding knowledge contributions. • Conduct regular knowledge needs assessments to identify gaps and areas for improvement in knowledge management practices and systems. • Develop and deliver training programs and materials to build capacity and promote effective knowledge sharing and utilisation within the organisation. • Collaborate with the communications team to develop and disseminate knowledge products, including reports, publications, case studies, and policy briefs, to reach a wider audience and contribute to sector-wide learning and development. • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of knowledge management initiatives through metrics, feedback mechanisms, and user surveys, and thrive for continuous improvement.

Requisite qualifications, experience, and attributes

Education and experience: Masters or equivalent degree in Environmental Science/Disaster Management/ Geography/ Economics/ Sociology/ Anthropology or relevant discipline. 06 (six) years’ demonstrated professional experience in the field of research, knowledge management and learning with relevant organisations. The years of experience may be relaxed for candidates with exceptional credentials and/or fast professional growth track. Demonstratable peer reviewed journal publications with strong H-index will be an advantage. Knowledge: Knowledge on both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies (mix-methods), study designs, data collection tools, data analysis, high standard report preparation, dissemination of key findings, tools for capturing knowledge and learnings and application of computer software (MS Excel, SPSS, GIS, data visualisation software, NVIVO) and data collection devices is essential. Skill: Excellent analysis and analytical writing quality is crucial; ability to present research/study findings with excellent data visualisation techniques, and electronic data archiving is required. Good communication skills; pro-activeness, positive attitude and professional integrity is required as well. Competencies: Must be a team player with mutual trust and understanding in a mixed team, self-motivated, problem solver, demonstrates gender and cultural awareness, effective communicator, capable to work under extreme pressure, ability to prioritise works and meet deadlines. Ready to undertake extensive field visits as required.

Salary & Benefits

Monthly gross salary is BDT 123500/-; flexible for deserving candidate corresponding to higher credentials. Benefits include provident fund, gratuity, festival bonus, life insurance for self, health insurance for self, spouse and children, cell phone allowances etc. as per policy provision.
